My Focus:  Intellectual Property Litigation and Strategy

Education: Bachelor of Science in Engineering, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg 1988; J.D. (South African), University of South Africa, 1993

About Me: As someone who has worked as an engineer and also as an IP attorney, both in-house and at law firms, I bring a unique and in-depth legal and technical perspective to the Greenfield IP practice. Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, I have a wealth of experience guiding the creation of IP portfolios, asserting IP rights and defending against incoming IP allegations.

I have handled matters in many different technical fields, including acoustics, wired and wireless telecommunications, radio frequency transmission protocols, signal processing, sound masking, medical devices, manufacturing, e-commerce, user interfaces, audio, video and still-image compression, audio spatialization, 3D graphics, and consumer electronics devices and technologies.

My practice includes providing senior technical and legal support to our patent litigation trial teams: preparing arguments, analyses and disclosures regarding patent validity and infringement; and preparing and analyzing lost profits and reasonable royalty damage claims. I also perform evaluations of the strengths or weaknesses of inventions (patents), trade secrets, trademarks and copyrights and am ready to assist with the licensing, purchasing and selling of same. I also have a wealth of experience performing and analyzing prior art searches, providing design-around and freedom-to-operate advice, and advising executive management on IP strategy, acquisition and portfolio management.
